AT HOME PET EUTHANASIA
Pet euthanasia is a difficult issue for many people to handle. For most of us, confronting this issue for our pets means confronting fear, guilt, and grief. Our pet’s typical life span is but a fraction of our own, so it’s an issue we must ultimately be prepared to face whenever we make the commitment to bring a pet into our homes and into our families. Every pet owner faces that final day with a beloved pet in their own unique and personal way. It is a deeply personal and very private matter and your pet’s last hours really shouldn’t take place in a foreign, clinical environment like a veterinary hospital. Their final moments should be spent in the peaceful and familiar surroundings of their home and in the company of their loving family.
When the time comes for this ultimate Act of Kindness, Dr. Murtha will bring his experience and compassion to your house to help you say goodbye to your pet in a peaceful and loving manner. After meeting with you and your family, Dr. Murtha will administer a series of two or three injections. The first injection(s) consist of a mixture of a tranquilizer and a narcotic medication. This will help your pet to become quiet, absolutely relaxed and free from pain – usually within five to ten minutes.
When you and your pet are ready, Dr. Murtha will administer the final injection, which is a concentrated form of a barbiturate anesthetic solution. The first effect of this injection is complete loss of consciousness – and in a few seconds, the remainder of the body’s functions will slow down and stop. It is very fast-acting and there is no suffering – just a painless and peaceful passing.

At the Private Cremation the pet owner will be given time to be with their pet in a private setting to say their final good bye, and then be allowed to witness (or have a family member or friend witness) the cremation if they so desire. A Private Cremation allows the pet owner (or representative) to observe the cremation process in a very personal way, thereby alleviating any doubt that they are getting their own pet’s cremated remains returned to them.

Making the decision to have Elwood put to sleep was the most difficult decision I have ever made. Your patience and kindness throughout the entire procedure was beyond anything I had expected...thank you.
I could tell from your voice over the phone and after meeting you that you have a gift and I am sure most people will agree that you make the process so much easier. I have begun to make a garden around the base of the little tree where Elwood spent his last moments of his life.
I received his ashes in less than a week. They also sent the lock of his hair. Now I have to think of Jake, he seems to be adjusting well. So Tom again I thank you so very much. You are a very special person.
Sincerely,
Dee Martinelli
